Careers at SecondChapter

Help people find what comes next.

SecondChapter is building a new kind of community for people imagining a different life somewhere new — connecting them with people on similar paths and people already living the life they're considering.

We're early. That means there's still a lot to build.

Where we are

We're at the beginning.

SecondChapter is at an early stage. It isn't a company with years of established processes — it's an early product built around an idea we believe deserves to exist. For the right people, that's the opportunity.

You wouldn't be joining to maintain what already exists. You'd be helping decide what it becomes.

The mission

The problem we're working on is deeply human.

At some point, many people begin wondering whether the life they're living now has to be the life they live next. Maybe they're approaching retirement. Maybe their children are grown. Maybe work has become more flexible. Maybe life simply changed.

Information about another country is easy to find. Finding the right people isn't.

That's the problem SecondChapter exists to solve. Read our story.

You might belong here if…

  • You're curious about people whose lives are different from your own.
  • You can think globally without forgetting that experiences are local.
  • You care about the human problem before the technical solution.
  • You like making complicated things feel simple.
  • You care about craft, and you'd rather test an idea than defend it.
  • You care about privacy and trust, even when nobody is watching.
  • You believe people over 45 deserve exceptional technology too.
  • You want to build something useful, not merely addictive.

This might not be for you if…

  • You need every problem to arrive with a detailed specification.
  • You measure quality mainly by how much time people spend in an app.
  • You see people over 45 as a group to simplify technology for, rather than design brilliantly for.
  • You treat privacy, moderation or accessibility as work to add later.
  • You prefer copying whatever competitors already do.

How we want to work

Ten principles.

  1. 01

Start with the person, not the feature.

Before asking what to build, ask what someone is trying to do with their life. Technology follows.

  2. 02

    Relevance matters more than reach.

We don't need to show someone everyone. We need to help them find the right few people.

  3. 03

Trust is part of the product.

Privacy, safety, moderation, accessibility and security aren't tasks at the bottom of a roadmap. They decide whether people feel comfortable here.

  4. 04

    Build for real life.

The best session might end with someone closing SecondChapter — because they called someone, met someone, or made a decision.

  5. 05

    Be curious before being certain.

People and cultures are complicated. Listen, ask, test, learn, change your mind.

  6. 06

    Say what is true.

No fake activity, invented testimonials, inflated metrics or pretend features. Trust begins with honesty.

  7. 07

    Small details matter.

A button label. A privacy default. A loading state. A sentence. Craft shapes how a product feels.

  8. 08

Leave things better than you found them.

Code, design, documentation, community. If you touch something, improve it.

  9. 09

    Disagree without becoming disagreeable.

Strong opinions are welcome. Evidence and respect matter. The best idea should have room to win.

  10. 10

    Remember why we're here.

We're helping someone imagine: “Maybe I could actually do this.”

Open roles

There isn't an open role today.

SecondChapter is being built for the long term, and the team will grow when the time is right. When roles open, they'll be listed here first.

Don't see your role?

SecondChapter is early enough that some of the people we'll eventually need may not have job titles here yet.

If you understand what we're trying to build and believe you could make a meaningful contribution, we'd be interested in hearing why.

We'll use these details only to consider your introduction. Please don't include your age, date of birth or other personal details we don't need. See our privacy notice.
